Pigeons!

Yes, I've been working on a new linocut of pigeons. Some may love them, some may not. I think they're pretty elegant (and slightly amusing) beasts. Here are some pics of the print in progress. I'll have some copies of it for sale at the upcoming markets, and eventually in my folksy shop.
An updated list of events I'm selling at in Nov/Dec are a bit further down...

New works..

Just thought I'd put up a few new pieces that I've been working on.

Firstly, a view of Whitby. I went there camping for the first time this summer, and totally loved it.

Secondly is a linocut that i'm using currently as a card-design. I may create some hand-printed versions in different colours in the near future. It is called 'Donkey & Bird'.

Lastly is another donkey linocut (I'm getting mildly obsessed). It is called 'King Of The Donkeys', and I've produced it as a poster-print. He is in charge, but I'm not sure he's that happy about it.

Oct/Nov/Dec Happenings

Hello people

Well, the busiest part of the year is here. Lots of fairs, markets and events (and hopefully not as much snow as last year!).

Here are the events I'm selling at during this period:

1. Crucible Craft Fair - Sat 22nd October, 10am-4pm I'll be selling my work at this event for the first time. The Crucible Theatre has started hosting craft fairs and workshop over the latter half of 2011. The fair will feature handmade art and craft from the region, and the possibility of spotting a luvvie or two on site!

2. The Art Market, Holmfirth Sun 6th November 10am-4pm

The renowned art market strikes again. 50 artists, painting, sculpture, ceramics, prints and more. I attended this in May and was blown away by the quality of the arts, and the enthusiasm of the browsers and organisers. So, looking forward to this one!

3. The Menagerie at The Cross Scythes, Monday 7th November 7.30pm-11pmA pop-up gallery/shop for one evening, at the Cross Scythes in Totley, Sheffield. As well as my work, there will be sculptures by Fenella Noble, Red Bear Jewellery and Panga Designs woodcraft.

4. Mary's Marvellous Vintage & Craft Fair, Sat 12th November 10am-4pm
Following on from the success of their first fair, St Mary's Church on Bramall Lane, Sheffield hosts a festive fair, packed full of quality craft and vintage items, and some really nice cakes too!

5. Winter Craft Fair 2011, Saturday 19th November 10am-4pm
A new fair in Sheffield Uni's Students Union, and a pretty big one too. Be prepared studentsville..

6. Wentworth Castle Festive Fair, Sunday 20th November 10am-4pm
45 stalls of festive gift, craft and farm produce in a pretty impressive location in Barnsley.

7. Carfield Primary School Christmas Fair, Saturday 26th November 11am-4pm
Annual festive event in Meersbrook, Sheffield, with plenty of locals craftspeople in attendance.

8. Reetsweet@ The Millenium Gallery: Christmas Fair, Sunday 27th November 12pm-4pm
Reetsweet comes to Sheffield! 'No ordinary craft fair', this one comes as a successor to the Craft Candy fairs, and will bring some pretty special crafts along.

9. Kelham Island Victorian Market, Sat/Sun 3rd/4th December 10am-7pm
In its 19th year, this Sheffield event should be pretty exciting! All stall-holders have to dress Victorian for the occasion, so that'll be fun! Probably the mostly Christmassy event you can imagine. A big market, enough said.

10. Elsecar Christmas Craft Fair, Sat/Sun 10th/11th December 10am-4pm
A right-whopper of a craft event, with textiles, art, homewares, books and food, oh and a brass band!

11. Union Christmas Craft Market, Sheffield University, Tues 13th December 11am-3pm
On the traditional students' Christmas Eve (not the real eve, but the day before the students finish for christmas), a craft event held in the Students Union.

12. Saltaire Handmade Fair, Saturday 17th December 10am-3pm
To finish off my festive fairs, an event in the town that seems to live for art and crafts! Handmade crafts, artwork, photography, traditional home baking, textiles, jewellery, gifts, knit & crochet, and more.

I might sneak another event in this list somewhere, so watch this space!

Oh, nearly forgot..I have just made some plates with my designs on ('The Crow' and 'An Uncomfortable Silence') with a little help from Lianne Mellor. I will have a limited supply of these at the forthcoming events, and they won't be in my Folksy shop.

(Stop press - all plates sold out now, sorry!)

1. Devonshire Market - Sat 27th August 2011
On the bank holiday weekend, there will be a sizeable market happening on Devonshire Green in Sheffield; lots of art, craft, food, gifts and, apparently now, live music too! The last market there was a lot of fun, so I'm looking forward to it!

2. Art In The Gardens - Sat 3rd/ Sun 4th September 2011
I'll be selling my work at this event for the first time. An established art-only fair held in the beautiful Botanical Gardens in Sheffield. It is apparently the largest outdoor art exhibition in the north of England! My pal Lianne Mellor (Mellorware) will also be selling there.

The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield have decided (in their wisdom!) to host a series of craft workshops from September. I'm running the first one, on 17th Sept, 10.15am-4.15pm. I'll be teaching linocut printing. The class will be suitable for beginners and also people who have dabbled a little in printing before. If you do want to book a place (only 8 available), call the Crucible on 0114 201 3831 or email events@sheffieldtheatres.co.uk

5. Mary's Marvellous Vintage & Craft Market - Sat 24th September 2011
A new market in Sheffield, held in a really great location; St Mary's Church on Bramall Lane. 50 stalls of quality arts, craft and vintage items, plus some seriously tasty cakes. This place has a reputation for such things!

Thats it, for now. Oh, I have made some more printworks mugs, so will be taking those along to the fairs/markets!

Pheasants and The Corner Gallery

Pheasants
Just completed a new poster-print. Its of a couple of pheasants I chased around the countryside in North Wales a few weeks ago. Nifty fellows they were too.

It is available in my Folksy shop, and also at my future fairs.

March/April Fairs!

Things hotting up this month, what with the Craft Candy Mini Fair on Sat 12th March..

I've been beavering away like a nut for the last two months coming up with a load of new prints, posters and cards in preparation for an interesting cluster of fairs coming up (that i'll be selling at):

Firstly there is the Craft Candy Spring Fair on Saturday March 26th, at the Millennium Galleries, Sheffield. This time it is in conjunction with the Galvanise Metalwork festival, so there'll be lots of interesting metalwork as well as art/craft goodness.

Then, the very next day (Sunday 27th March) there is the Spring Nether Edge Farmers Market. Always very busy, this one...12-4pm...full of fancy food, art, craft and possibly morris dancers...

In April (3rd-5th) I will be showing my work at the British Craft Trade Fair 2011, in Harrogate. Its the first time I've done this one. Apparently its the biggest trade event in the UK, so I'm a little excited!

More stuff to come in May onwards, including Open Up Sheffield...

phew!

Linocut Workshop, Saturday 5th Feb 2011

A happy new year to you all!

I'm running a linocut workshop on Saturday 5th February 2011 in Sheffield, at Eccleshall Library. It had been arranged through Craft Candy, the sheffield craft collective that i'm part of, and you can book a place on it through their website:

www.craft-candy.org/workshops/details/lino-printing-workshop

On the day you'll learn how to create a linocut printing plate, and how to make a print. You'll just need to bring along an image to base your design on (ideally a tracing of it too), some old clothes (printing gets messy sometimes) and a pencil!

There's more info on the website. Maybe see some of you there..

cheers

James
